What is medical weight loss?

Medical weight loss is a weight-management program run by a licensed clinician. It combines prescription medication, when appropriate, with regular measurements and coaching on eating and activity. At The Rejuvenation Bar, Dr. Eileen tracks body composition as well as weight, so you can see whether you are losing fat rather than muscle.

How do semaglutide and tirzepatide work?

Both are once-weekly injections that mimic hormones your gut releases after eating. They help you feel full sooner, reduce cravings and steady blood sugar, so most people eat less without constant hunger. Semaglutide acts on one hormone receptor (GLP-1). Tirzepatide acts on two (GIP and GLP-1).

Semaglutide vs tirzepatide: which is right for you?

Dr. Eileen recommends one or the other based on your goals, history, how you have responded to past medicines, and side effects. Some patients switch from one to the other during their program.

Why patients switch to us from online weight-loss programs

Many of our new patients come from online programs. These are the problems they describe most often, and how our program works instead.

How much weight can you lose on semaglutide or tirzepatide?

In the STEP-1 trial of brand-name semaglutide, adults lost an average of about 15% of their body weight over 68 weeks. In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of brand-name tirzepatide, adults on the highest dose lost an average of about 21% over 72 weeks. Both trials combined medication with diet and exercise and used FDA-approved products. Your results depend on your dose, habits, health and how consistently you follow the plan.

What are the side effects of semaglutide and tirzepatide?

The most common side effects of both are nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, stomach pain, indigestion and lower appetite. They are usually strongest when a dose increases. Tell us if you cannot eat or drink enough; do not wait for your next visit.

These medicines are not for everyone:

The brand-name versions of both carry a boxed warning about thyroid C-cell tumors. Do not use them if you or a family member has had medullary thyroid cancer or MEN 2.

Serious risks include pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, dehydration that can affect the kidneys, and low blood sugar if you take other diabetes medicines.

Tirzepatide can make birth control pills less effective, especially after starting or increasing a dose. Ask about a backup method.

Neither should be used during pregnancy. Tell us if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or planning a pregnancy.

Who is a good candidate for medical weight loss?

Brand-name semaglutide (Wegovy) and tirzepatide (Zepbound) are FDA-approved for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or higher, or 27 or higher with a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes. Dr. Eileen reviews your BMI, body composition, history and goals to decide whether medication fits. If you are already close to your goal and want to address one area, Invisa-Red body contouring at our Miami office may be a better fit.

How much does medical weight loss cost?

Our program is billed as a weekly or monthly fee, and pricing is the same at both offices. Your cost depends on your plan, which medication you use, and whether you add L-carnitine to tirzepatide. Labs can be billed to insurance or paid in cash. You can pay over time with Cherry, CareCredit and Klarna — ask the office about the Klarna option — and first responders and healthcare workers can ask about our specials.

Your questions, answered.

Do you offer semaglutide and tirzepatide?

Yes. Both are available at our Miami and North Providence offices. Dr. Eileen will recommend the one that fits you best.

Which is better, semaglutide or tirzepatide?

Neither is best for everyone. Tirzepatide produced more average weight loss in trials, while semaglutide has the longer track record. Your history, goals and side effects decide.

Can I start at my first visit?

Yes, if Dr. Eileen decides it is appropriate. Bring recent labs if you have them.

Do I have to mix my medication?

No. It arrives ready to use and is shipped cold to protect it.

Is compounded semaglutide the same as Ozempic or Wegovy?

No. Compounded semaglutide is prepared by a licensed pharmacy and is not FDA-approved. Ozempic and Wegovy are FDA-approved brand-name products. The same is true of compounded tirzepatide compared with Zepbound and Mounjaro.

Can I switch from semaglutide to tirzepatide?

Often, yes. Dr. Eileen can switch you if your progress stalls or side effects are hard to manage.

What does L-carnitine add?

L-carnitine is a nutrient involved in how the body uses fat for energy. Adding it is optional, and Dr. Eileen will tell you whether it fits your plan.

Do I need labs before I start?

Often, yes. We can draw them in either office, or you can bring results from the past 6 months.

Can I do my follow-ups virtually?

Yes, if you are located in Florida or Rhode Island at the time of the visit.

Do I still need to change how I eat and exercise?

Yes. Medication works best alongside eating and activity changes, and we coach on both at every visit.

What happens when I reach my goal?

Dr. Eileen reviews your progress and builds a maintenance plan. There is no single stopping schedule that fits everyone.
