The Rejuvenation Bar treats perimenopause, menopause and andropause (age-related low testosterone in men) at our offices in Miami (Kendall) and North Providence, Rhode Island. Dr. Eileen Rivera Jimenez, DNP, FNP, starts with a consultation and labs, then builds a plan such as hormone cream or pellets for women, or testosterone or a fertility-sparing option for men.

Is hormone therapy for women or men?

Both. Most of our hormone patients are women in perimenopause or menopause. We also treat men with symptoms of low testosterone. The evaluation is similar for both: your symptoms, your labs and your goals decide the plan.

What is perimenopause?

Perimenopause is the transition before menopause. You still have periods, though they may become irregular, and you have not yet gone 12 months without one. Common signs include lower libido, weight gain despite working out, hot flashes, night sweats, poor sleep and mood changes.

What is menopause?

Menopause is confirmed after 12 months in a row without a period. It usually happens between ages 45 and 55. Surgery that removes both ovaries causes menopause right away, at any age. That is why one patient may be in menopause at 38 while another is just starting at 55.

What is andropause?

Andropause is the gradual decline in testosterone some men experience with age. Symptoms can include low sex drive, erection changes, low energy and loss of muscle. A diagnosis needs both symptoms and consistently low testosterone on morning blood tests. Our testosterone replacement therapy page explains the evaluation in detail.

What are the hormone treatment options?

Testosterone injectionsMen who have completed their familyInjected on a regular scheduleLowers sperm production
Enclomiphene capsulesMen who want to keep their fertilityTaken by mouth; helps the body make its own testosteroneCompounded, not FDA-approved

How does Dr. Eileen choose the right option?

Your plan depends on your labs, symptoms, surgical history and goals. For women, the choice is often between a daily cream and pellet therapy. For men, the first question is always the same: is your family complete? Testosterone therapy can lower sperm count to zero, so men who may want children are usually steered toward enclomiphene instead.

What does "bioidentical" mean?

Bioidentical hormones have the same chemical structure as the hormones your body makes. The word describes structure only. It does not mean a product is safer, more effective or FDA-approved. Ask which exact product is proposed and why it fits you.

What are the risks of hormone therapy?

For menopause symptoms, hormone therapy is the most effective treatment for hot flashes and night sweats. Its risks depend on your age, how long since menopause began, your health history and the type of hormone. Women who still have a uterus and take estrogen generally need a progestogen too, to protect the uterine lining. Possible risks include blood clots, stroke and, with some regimens, breast cancer. Dr. Eileen reviews these with you and monitors your labs and symptoms over time.

How much does hormone therapy cost?

Pricing for hormone care is the same at our Miami and North Providence offices, with one exception: hormone pellet pricing differs by office. Labs can be billed to insurance or paid in cash. Payment plans are available through Cherry, CareCredit and Klarna; contact the office about the Klarna option.

Your questions, answered.

How do I know if I am in perimenopause?

If you still have periods but notice changes in your cycle, libido, weight, sleep or mood, perimenopause is likely. A consultation and labs help confirm it and rule out other causes.

Can I start hormone therapy after a hysterectomy?

Often, yes. If your ovaries were removed, you entered menopause at surgery, whatever your age. Your plan may differ from someone who still has a uterus.

Do I need labs before my first visit?

No. You can book first. We can draw labs in either office, or you can bring results from the past 6 months.

Are bioidentical hormones safer than other hormones?

Not automatically. Safety depends on the specific product, dose and your health, not on the word "bioidentical".

How soon will I feel better?

Many women notice changes in hot flashes and sleep within a few weeks. Finding the right dose can take a few months of follow-up.

How long will I stay on hormone therapy?

There is no fixed end date. Dr. Eileen reviews your benefits, risks and goals regularly.

Can men get hormone therapy here?

Yes. We offer testosterone injections, pellets and enclomiphene, depending on your labs and family plans.
