What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable gels that restore volume, add definition or smooth folds. Most are made of hyaluronic acid, a sugar your skin already contains. Others, like Radiesse and Sculptra, also prompt your body to build its own collagen. Fillers treat volume and shape; wrinkle relaxers such as Dysport treat lines caused by muscle movement.

What happens at your appointment?

  1. 1

    History review

Dr. Eileen reviews your history, including any filler you have had elsewhere.

  2. 2

    Assessment

She assesses your face at rest and in motion and recommends a product and amount.

  3. 3

    Numbing and placement

The area is numbed, and filler is placed with a fine needle or cannula.

  4. 4

    Aftercare and review

You leave with aftercare instructions and a plan to review your result once swelling settles.

What are the risks of fillers?

Swelling, bruising, tenderness and small lumps are common and usually settle within days to a couple of weeks. A rare but serious risk is filler entering a blood vessel, which can damage skin and, very rarely, affect vision. Call us or seek urgent care right away for severe pain, skin turning white or dusky, or any change in vision.

How much do dermal fillers cost?

Filler pricing is the same at both offices and depends on the product and how much is needed for your goals. Dr. Eileen will give you a clear plan and price before treatment. Payment plans are available through Cherry, CareCredit and Klarna; contact the office about the Klarna option.

Your questions, answered.

How long do fillers last?

It depends on the product and area: about 6 to 18 months for most Restylane products, a year or more for Radiesse, and up to 2 years for Sculptra.

Will I see results right away?

With Restylane and Radiesse, yes, though swelling can hide the final result for up to 2 weeks. Sculptra results build gradually.

Can filler be reversed?

Hyaluronic acid fillers like Restylane can be dissolved with an enzyme. Radiesse and Sculptra cannot.

Is filler the same as Botox?

No. Filler adds volume or definition. Wrinkle relaxers like Dysport and Daxxify soften lines caused by muscle movement.

Does filler hurt?

The area is numbed first, and many fillers also contain a numbing medicine. Most people feel pressure and mild discomfort.

How soon can I go back to my routine?

Most people return to normal activity the same day. Avoid hard exercise and heat for about a day, and follow your written aftercare.
